On 4th July Mick Ward, Head of Commissioning, Adult Social Care in Leeds, presented a £50 Asda voucher to pensioner Sandra from Holbeck, the lucky winner of The Hand of Friendship prize draw.
The Hand of Friendship is a telephone support service for older people run jointly by 3 Leeds based charities (Leeds Irish Health & Homes, Ciaran Bingham Foundation and Catholic Care) and funded by the National Lottery. It is a free and confidential telephone line for people over the age of 50, who when feeling lonely, can ring up for a chat.
Some people who have called say:
“I don’t get out often, I want to find out if there are any activities nearby for me”
“I haven’t had anyone to chat about the local news with since my wife died”
“I like to just have a chat about my day before I go to bed”
“Sometimes it’s nice to have a gossip about the soaps”
Lines are open Monday to Friday from 8pm to 10pm.
